The Avocet approach has three vital components
We will work closely with you to design your recruitment solution and we take time to get to know your business, its culture and its key objectives and deliverables; by doing this we can best represent you to potential candidates and also identify which of those candidates will present you with the best “fit”.
We do this by spending time discussing your organisation and asking what priorities within the business the vacant position will be addressing. Then we discuss, in detail, the job description and how it relates to the business priorities. Only when we have discussed all of the above in detail, will we ask about the qualifications required for the role.
Most recruiters only ask about qualifications for the role and then, at best, for about 10 minutes and spend no time whatsoever on learning about and understanding your business. All of which leads to the endless cycle of chasing the “wrong” candidates before requesting a further meeting, or even meetings, with you to “fully understand the role”. We don’t waste your time in that way – we discover all this in our initial meeting and it’s our background in strategic business advice that gives us the experience to ask the relevant questions. Working with Avocet will actually reduce the time it takes you to recruit.
We support Peter Drucker’s view that “my greatest strength as a consultant is to be ignorant and ask a few questions.”
Our Approach
We have made a very deliberate decision – we will focus on service, integrity, mutual respect and market expertise. Unlike many IT recruitment businesses we have elected not be driven by price. Yes, such an approach may increase our volumes but it will also compromise our service levels and even if it did mean us making a few more pennies at the end of the month, we would not be working with pride and someone would always find a way to do it cheaper. We believe that cost focused recruitment is a quick way to the bottom and that’s not where we want to be.
Instead we concern ourselves with innovation and sustainability; we will not be greedy or selfish, we will treat everyone we engage with respect and integrity. Of course we realise that takes more talent, time and effort and it will attract more risk. It will be inevitably more difficult and tiring to focus on service and integrity, but it’s the difficult path that leads to the top of the mountain and that’s where Avocet wants to be.

Tell us about your recruiting challenges and we will provide you with a solution that will help you succeed.
Where candidates with the background and experience you seek are scarce, you need your chosen recruitment partner to promote you to potential employees – we can only do this by taking the time to understand the business and where the role fits in – not just the job specification.
We also supply both contract and interim personnel. Projects oftentimes need a single individual at the helm and current staff may be unable to take up this mantle; when this is the case, an interim manager is an excellent solution, affording you access to focused, relevant skills but without the long term financial commitment.
Working closely as an extension of your HR function, we ensure that your people are contributing to your strategic direction and by undertaking HR audits we advise on the appropriate policies and procedures.
We can help you develop the future leaders within your business by using our Executive Coaching service to create a more sustainable business. Also, via our employment law service, we can help you find an effective solution that makes sound commercial sense to any potential employment issues you may be experiencing.

“I have worked with Keith for 10 years now in a number of organisations. During this time Keith has always provided a professional service. They have taken the time to understand the requirements for the role and then supplied candidates suitable for interview. I would have no hesitation in recommending Keith to provide recruitment services. Thanks Keith and here’s to another 10 years.” EMEA Infrastructure Director, Technology Company
“Karyn has always delivered first class professional advice, offering a new aspect on many business ideas, providing a new direction & inspiration each time.” MD, Software Development Company
“In my long experience, of dealing with hundreds of recruitment consultants (mostly as a candidate) I can honestly say that I found Keith to be the best. It’s not often, in the contracting world, for someone to take an interest in, and actively support, a candidate’s personal and professional development: yet Keith achieves this effortlessly. He always takes a great deal of time to ensure that candidates are the right match for a client and actively monitors feedback on both sides to ensure that all parties are happy with the fit, a long time after most consultants stop calling.
Keith has placed me with two clients now; the second where he knew I would improve processes and tools to speed up the project thereby reducing his bottom line from the many other candidates on site. I can therefore attest that Keith’s top priority is quality over quantity and he delivers value to his clients whilst finding the best rates for his many happy candidates. I would, and have, recommended Keith’s personable service to clients and candidates alike, and would not hesitate to collaborate with him again in the future.” Infrastructure Project Manager
